The Brief

Perkatory Roasters is an independently owned and operated coffee shop with four locations in Connecticut and an online store specializing in handcrafted artisan roasted coffee, teas, and branded merchandise. The company offers a revolving assortment of distinctive single-origin beans, as well as exclusive Perkatory Roasters, crafted blends. Using modest production methods, they approach each individual roast as an opportunity to elevate and preserve quality and taste. Perkatory Coffee Roasters was conceived from the minds of two children of the 80's. Raised on punk rock and skateboarding, they wanted to bring new life to a coffee shop in a growing community. With tremendous competition in the artisan coffee industry, it was critical that Perkatory Roasters differentiate, feature a wholesale portal, and be easily located by online customers and prospects.

The Challenge

The online ordering system for drinks and buying pounds of coffee for Perkatory Roasters was outdated and disconnected. There were multiple websites among the four locations, which bogged down search engine optimization and was potentially confusing for customers. The greatest volume of sales was in-store. They needed to streamline and build a retail web presence to capitalize on online sales.

Although stats showed that Perkatory Roasters was getting 5,000 people to their sites per month, the sales conversion did not support those site visits. Put simply, Perkatory Roasters wanted to sell more bags of coffee and make overall processes more efficient.

The Solution

The solution was to redesign the site and back-end ordering systems. Kingside Development recreated the existing Squarespace eCommerce website into a more robust Shopify website. Shopify takes care of everything from marketing and payments to secure transactions and shipping. Shopify is completely cloud-based and hosted, which means you don’t have to worry about upgrading or maintaining software or web servers. This gives the flexibility to access and run the business from almost anywhere, including a mobile device.

Custom JavaScript subscription features were created so shoppers can experience a range of new coffee options. Users can get their coffee delivered on a monthly or weekly basis. Now customers and prospects also receive regular promotional emails, marketing content, and special offers through an automated sales process.
